Yvonne Mary Sammut (Bonnici)

May 23, 1926 - August 29th, 2016

Peacefully, at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Yvonne Sammut passed away in her 91st year. Yvonne is predeceased by her husband, Edward Joseph Sammut (February, 2012). Their life together was filled with love and happiness and they cherished their 66 years as a couple. Yvonne was a loving mother to; Maries, John (Nancy), Natalie (Hal), Josette (the late Juergen), David (Grace), Chris (Jane) and Alison. Yvonne is mourned by her one surviving sister, Lillian Sciriha (George) in Malta. She will be greatly missed by her 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Yvonne and Ed came to Canada from Malta in 1951 to make a new life for their growing family. Mom selflessly dedicated her life to her husband and her seven children, and was a great source of fun to her many great grandchildren. Mom was in her element when she had all her family surrounding her. She and dad were always supportive of their children and gently guided their formation of character as they grew. In her final days, mom’s strong sense of appreciation was ever present as she acknowledged the simplest of actions that made her more comfortable. Her faith was a great comfort to her in her life, and sustained her in the last few weeks of her struggle home to our Lord. Mom leaves behind a legacy of love and a strong sense of purpose that is rooted in family. We will miss Mom’s wonderful sense of humour and the way she laughed when her children teased her. Thank you Mom for teaching us that life is meant to be lived to the fullest.

Family would like to thank the staff at Renoir Retirement Residence and Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, ON for the professional and gentle care that they provided to our Mother.

Friends and family may pay respects at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket 905-898-2100, on Thursday, September 1, 2016
from 10:00a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at: St John Chrysostom Roman Catholic Church, 432 Ontario Street, Newmarket, Ontario 905- 898-4137, at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Thornhill, (Bayview Ave. & Langstaff Rd.
