ZEPPA, Mary (nee Yurkiewitch) —
November 21, 1930 - January 15, 2016
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, January 15, 2016. Loving mother of Sharon (Tom), Josie and Ray (Tammy). Doting grandmother of Danielle (Derek), Nick (Pat), Matthew (Katie), Chris (Hayley), Mark (Raajan), David (Laura), Samantha and Jesseca. Great-grandmother to Finnigan and Abigail. Mary was the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants, grew up in the West-end of Toronto, where she met and married the love of her life Raymond Edward Zeppa in 1950. A devoted and loving wife, she worked by her husband’s side every day in the Caledonia Smoke Shop in Toronto, where they carved out a living together. Through it all, Mary maintained a balance of hard work, home cooked meals, good humour and a loving and gentle concern for all. Mary gave birth to two daughters and a son and proved herself to be an adept and creative homemaker, a devoted mother and a staunch supporter and partner to her husband. Mary delighted in having her family around her and was always up for a game of cards when asked. She especially loved playing poker at Christmas dinners. Mary survived breast cancer at an early age and went on to lead a long and fruitful life. Her family was her world, and we are far richer for having our memories of her to share. Her greatest joy in her later years was reading a good book. Mary will be remembered for her kindness and capacity for unconditional love for her family. Heaven now has one more angel, but we will miss her dearly, love her forever and never forget her.
Visitation will be held at Taylor Funeral Home - Newmarket, 524 Davis Drive (905-898-2100) on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Roman Catholic Church, 17955 Leslie Street, Newmarket. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
