Habib was born in 1924 in the town of Kfarzabad, in the Bekaa valley of Lebanon. He was the youngest of five children. His sisters Manneh and Mariam, and his brothers Melhem and Gerios, had all departed to meet their Creator before him.

Habib lost his mother at age of three years and his father at the age of 16 years. Becoming an orphan at such a tender age taught him many things: responsibility, self reliance, independence, and most of all, the value of family.

Habib was an ambitious and self-made man. At a young age, he traveled out of Lebanon seeking better employment opportunities. He traded the comfort of living and working in a beautiful country like Lebanon to working in an empty desert with excruciating hot weather and sandy storms. His work in the pipeline industry took him to all the Gulf countries and many countries in Africa and Southeast Asia. His hard work, integrity, honesty, loyalty and dedication won him the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him. He succeeded in making a reputable name for himself and securing a high standard of education and comfortable living for his family, one that he himself yearned to have in his earlier years.

Habib was a kind person who thrilled in helping others. He recruited many young men from his hometown to work with him and assisted many others in finding work opportunities elsewhere. These people and their families remain indebted to him until this day. He was loved, admired and respected by people in his hometown for his kindness, humbleness and generosity. He was the Godfather of more than 20 children. His opinion and wisdom were often sought to resolve conflicts in the extended family. He supported with enthusiasm the Al Fraiha clan, which is several hundred members strong.

But Habib's legacy lies in his immediate family. He and Hanna Bitar, his wife of 66 years, formed and nurtured a family which carries the high morals and values that Habib and Hanna instilled in them. Although his work required him to be away from home for extended periods of time, his family was always a priority in his mind and heart. He was very proud of each member of his family and had tremendous respect and appreciation for his daughter-in-law Hana Sabbagh, and his sons-in-law, the late Abdullah Hreiz, Jack Kalloghlian, Hanna Samaha, Philip ElGeries, Ian Taylor and Eric Sebastian.

Habib is survived by his wife Hanna, his son Ghassan, and daughters Salwa, Husn, Marie, Adele, Daad and Randa, and 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Habib will always be in the thoughts and hearts of his family, and his values will always be their guide in life.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation:
https://secure2.convio.net/srhcf/site/SPageServer/;jsessionid=9ABF3BD0760FFCE342C65683E5511875.app261a?pagename=donation_form
