GOREWICH, Elsie (nee Claeys)

Elsie passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 29, 2016 at the age of 86. While a battle with Parkinson’s and dementia dominated Elsie’s last few years, it did not define her. Elsie led a full and active life, and will be remembered most for her strength of character, her contagious laugh, and for the unwavering love and support she provided to her family and friends. Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Janice Harrison, Janice’s husband, Glenn Middleton, and her three grandchildren, Jeannette Benson, Connor Harrison and Paige Harrison. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Gorewich and daughter, Nancy Benson Hamstra. Elsie was devoted to her family, and had a profound impact on the lives of those around her. She led by example, teaching us the importance of optimism, kindness, perseverance, and integrity. She continues to be an inspiration to those who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Visitations will take place at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket on Monday, March 7th from 7 - 9 pm. We will be having additional visitation from 1 - 2 pm on Tuesday, March 8th. Following this we will gather at Taylor Funeral Home to celebrate Elsie’s life at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, we are encouraging donations to Sleeping Children Around the World ( www.scaw.org ), a charity that had a special place in Elsie’s heart.
