<div itemprop="description"><br /> <br />Allan Crooks 56, of Etobicoke Toronto passed peacefully in his sleep the morning of Tuesday January 19th. Allan was born April 5th 1959 to Alice and Larry Crooks. Allan is survived by his mother Alice Crooks, son Ryan Duggan, Ryan&rsquo;s mother Cathey Duggan, siblings Darren (Fery Crooks), Sue and Norm Crooks (Shelley Crooks), and fondly remembered by Darlene E Davis and Heather Rice, and his niece Shahrzad Crooks and nephew Leonard Crooks. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Al was born at Montreal Royal Victoria Hospital on April 5th 1959. He grew up in Chomedey and L'&Icirc;le-Bizard Montreal. At the age of 17 Al joined the Canadian Forces as an infantryman in the Royal Canadian Regiment garrisoned in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Al proudly served both at home and abroad for 10 years, including a tour in Germany (1978 - 1981), and active UN peacekeeping duties in Cyprus. Al achieved the rank of Corporal, was voted top candidate on completion of the French Commando course, and completed the Nijmegan Marches with the Canadian Team in 1979. In acknowledgement of his service Al received the Special Service Award (NATO) and UN Service Award (Cyprus). During his time abroad Allan developed a life-long love for the sport of motorcycling and in more recent years became an avid skateboarder, a pursuit shared with his son Ryan. Al had a passion for life and revelry and his spirited good humor touched many lives. All his Brothers in Arms within the Regiment remember him fondly and will mourn his passing. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The Funeral Service will be at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive Newmarket, On. (905) 898-2100 on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm with Memorial Service to follow at 2 pm in the chapel. In the spirit of the man, a celebration of Al's life will be held immediately after the memorial at the same location.
